Our next recipe is for one of the greatest treats you can serve to your friends or family as an appetizer, or even as a between meals snack. Because with deep fried calamari in beer batter you just can’t go wrong.
Ingredients (for 4 servings):
2 pounds of large squids, cleaned and sliced
1½ cup of flour
1 cup of cold beer (regular or nonalcoholic)
½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon of salt
½ cup of panko
How to make the deep fried calamari:
Use a large mixing bowl to mix 1 cup of flour, cayenne pepper, salt, panko and beer until you have a smooth paste. Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy saucepan to approximately 375°F. Spread the remaining flour in a small bowl. Place the calamari rings in the flour, shake a little and clean off the excess flour. Dip in the beer batter and deep fry for about 2 minutes, until golden brown.
Serve with lemon wedges and mayonnaise aioli.
