Weird but Good Pizza

Yes, we take requests in this kitchen. Although sometimes there needs to be minor adjustments. Like last week’s pizza request from Annie. She requested that I make Hawaiian pizza again, and I would have been happy to comply, except for one small problem. It’s Lent and we have homemade pizza on Fridays. Therefore, we’re not allowed to add that magical ingredient to the pineapple topping that makes it all worthwhile – the ham, of course. Or bacon, if you want to get crazy.

When I was faced with this conundrum I did what any self-respecting blogger would do and I turned to the internet to see what special combination of ingredients I could find for a Hawaiian pizza that would compensate for the missing swine meat. And the internet delivered this weird recipe for Delightful Vegetarian Hawaiian Pizza. Initially I was a bit concerned that it would be too sweet with the coconut added to the pineapple. Then I thought the pizza sauce would completely clash with the sweet toppings. It turns out that the whole thing blended together quite nicely and the almonds replaced the substance of the missing ham.

It was very good. But I’ll still take my Hawaiian pizza with ham when this Lenten business is done.

Sounds like a tasty pizza. What’s the tastiest pizza you came up with without a recipe?

“Weird” pizza? Adding ham to this pizza takes away its weirdness?? I guess I am a traditionalist. Pizza can have tomatoes, cheese pepperoni, anchovies and veggies on it. When you start turning it into a luau you lose me.

Hah Zoogirl! I didn’t think of it that way. I guess you’re a savory girl.

So hard to choose Mike! I could probably choose tasty toppings more readily than tasty combinations. I love pancetta and Irish bacon on my pizza. And I like potent cheeses like asiago and aged gouda. I’ll take some fresh sliced mushrooms as well. And I’ve never gone wrong with sausage such as chorizo or Italian. I know, I didn’t really answer your question but since there are rarely duplicates, I haven’t made any enough times to choose a favorite.

Got something to say?
