The Consumer Product Safety Commission Missed Something

I really thought they were looking out for us and our children. Each Christmas the Consumer Product Safety Commission comes out with warnings about the toys that are unsafe for our children, and they’re always on the lookout for children’s furniture that is unsafe. But, clearly they missed a ubiquitous childhood favorite that is a hazard to their safety. Or at least to mine.

Did you know that lollipops can kill? Or at least draw blood???? I never knew that. Until I sliced my mouth with one. I purchased a batch of organic lollipops from Trader Joe’s on my last trip there. I usually don’t eat lollipops, preferring chocolate as my treat. But I was curious to try one. I sat at my desk, mindlessly sucking the lollipop thinking it was pretty good, but still wishing for a piece of chocolate. Foolishly, I pulled it from my mouth without much thought, until – ouch! I realized the razor pop sliced my cheek and I was bleeding! Who knew lollipops could be so dangerous? Why didn’t the CPSC warn us of this hazard to ourselves and children?

I mentioned this unfortunate incident to the girls, looking for a little consolation. Got none. Apparently this has happened to both of them too.

Who knew?

    You should stick to jawbreakers.

Hmmmm. Candy is a food product. FDA regulates food. Maybe CPSC didn’t miss anything. Sorry about the cut. I’d suggest you stay away from anything harder than a Butterfinger.

I think you make a good point Alex. As usual, it was probably user error blamed on that poor innocent pop. Butterfingers are a much better choice in so many ways.

Got something to say?
