Quote of the Week – 3/10/10

People always reckon that you are a genius with lots of time on your hands if you have baked something, but really it’s often only a matter of getting the oven on, and mixing together a few magic ingredients in a bowl.

Rachel Allen too modest because I know good cooking is more the just applying heat. (especially if you are baking). I’m reminded of more than a few bad pie crusts,

The thing I liked about this quote is that she talks about “magical” ingredients, because there really is something magical about baking.

Got something to say?

“And I find chopsticks frankly distressing. Am I alone in thinking it odd that a people ingenious enough to invent paper, gunpowder, kites and any number of other useful objects, and who have a noble history extending back 3,000 years haven’t yet worked out that a pair of knitting needles is no way to capture food?” — Bill Bryson, “Notes from a Small Island”
