Is This Really News?
So with the expected fanfare the results of another study about food and health have been released, and this time the results might be music to the ears of many. This latest study of 20,000 people comes out of Germany, just in time for the Easter holiday. Why? Because it seems to offer the promise that chocolate may be beneficial in reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke. Of course the scientists will need more funding to study this further since it doesn’t sound like there were enough controls to know the specific reasons for the protection. And the scientists warn that you only need the smallest little square of chocolate to gain the beneficial effects. And they remind us that too much chocolate will make you gain weight.
So I ask you , is this really news? Or is this report just a marketing ploy by chocolate companies to encourage people to buy more Easter candy? Whatever. It will help to make me feel better about stealing the ears off the girls’ Easter bunnies this Sunday. Hey, I can spot an opportunity to rationalize my guilty pleasures as well as the next parent.

Got something to say?

Make sure the bunnies’ ears are dark chocolate as per the study. An ear portion should be just about right for the cardiac benefit. Perhaps you are a bit cynical about the timing of the study’s release or the purpose of the study but I hope you are not so cynical to disbelieve the existence of the Easter bunny.
BTW Are there any recent studies on eggs and peeps?
Shun the disbelievers (as my daughter Annie’s shirt says)! Of course, I believe in the Easter Bunny. One ear is never quite enough. Perhaps I can eat all the ears next week, and then atone by not eating chocolate for the next several weeks?
I’ll keep on the lookout for a Peeps study if that interests you. There is a new Rita’s water ice for the season in Peeps flavor. We tried it yesterday and it wasn’t as terribly sweet as I expected. In fact, it was pretty good.
