Quote of the Week – 2/10/10 – Regarding Chopsticks
“And I find chopsticks frankly distressing. Am I alone in thinking it odd that a people ingenious enough to invent paper, gunpowder, kites and any number of other useful objects, and who have a noble history extending back 3,000 years haven’t yet worked out that a pair of knitting needles is no way to capture food?”
- Bill Bryson in “Notes from a Small Island”

Got something to say?

I have been eating with chopsticks since I was a boy and I obviously don’t share Bill Bryson’s opinion. I hope you don’t share his opinion either. Chop sticks are ingenious in their simplicity. You can eat food without getting you fingers dirty, Wood has a natural aitibiotic property unlike silverware. Think of the efficiency of feeding billions of people without having to smelt half a mountain of silver ore. Chop sticks are a green renewable resource. If someone lacks the manual dexterity to feed himself with chopsticks he should go on a diet.
I believe chopsticks are fun Although it’s a pain in the neck to eat some food with them, such as peanuts. Since it slows down the eater, it’s probably a good diet control tool.
