Photo of the Week – 2/3/10 – On My Desert Island

Italian Bread

Definitely would want this to be in my supply kit if I had to live on a desert island.

If you’re on a desert I hopeyou have water in your kit too. Nothing like a diet of bread and water. If you’re lucky maybe you find some calamari. The bread does look tasty though.

I had an aunt who would visit from a long distance away. She would never have cake or anything sweet with her coffee, but just put a loaf of fresh baked bread and a stick of butter in front of her and she would happily nosh away! I kind of feel that way too when I look at your picture, and I can almost smell the good yeasty aroma coming from my screen!

I’ll just bring along my water filtration kit.

The older I grow, the more likely I am to prefer bread and butter over sweets. What a smart aunt you had.

Warm bread, a big tub of butter and a bottle of wine. Ahhh, heaven…

A tub of butter, love the image. I could swim in there a while.

Got something to say?

For me, the whole point of asking people to dinner is that you’re inviting them into your life. They show up for a true reality show, for a moment when they discover who you really are. Your friends may not get a faultless meal in a fabulous house, but they do get the pleasure of knowing that you trust them. — Ruth Reichl, “Gourmet” November 2009, final issue.
