A Perfect Summer Recipe
Last night I cooked the casserole you see in this photo. It was perfect because I had most of the ingredients in my refrigerator from Joe’s and my Dad’s garden bounty. It was a good thing, too, because I was without a car earlier this week, and was unable to buy supplies for dinner. This recipe is called “Baked Penne with Corn, Zucchini, and Basil”. I found it in the Williams-Sonoma catalog that I received last week. It’s a great way to use some of that extra produce that may be gathering fruit flies on your counter if you haven’t cooked it quickly enough. Oh, and for those of you that compare my picture to the recipe (and I know that there are some of you out there that may do this), I substituted cheddar cheese for the mozzarella and parmesan, and chicken broth for the wine, since, as I said, I had no wheels. I’m sure the recipe was as good, if not better, than the original thanks to the sharp flavor added by the cheddar. There were no leftovers.

Got something to say?
Does substitution make technically it a new recipe?
Hmm, I guess it depends on the degree of substitution. But aren’t most recipes a riff on a classic?
So now we have to search for or better yet create the first new original recipe. The recipe that is not a riff on any classic. A recipe that may use an original technique. Now that would be something good to eat. This could be the most worthy quest for humanity BTW I like the new format on your blog.
That would definitely be a challenge. On the other hand, I’m kind of old-fashioned, and appreciate the classics. Don’t think all new things are good. For example, what’s with all the foam technique that scientific chefs do these days? I need more substance when I eat.
Glad you like the new design. It just went live. I’m still working on a few extra details right now with my wonderful designer, but it was far enough along to go live.
You mean you don’t have a liquid nitrogen tank in your kitchen?
No, but I just got a blow torch for creme brulee that we tried out for the first time tonight. That was serious enough for my kitchen, I’ll pass on the liquid nitrogen.
The new sight looks great…Love the graphics and style!!
