Bring on the Carbs

Feed me pasta - I need to think!
I just read about a study that was done at Tufts University, where researchers compared the cognitive abilities of women on low calorie versus low carb diets. It turns out that those on the low carb diets showed a significant decrease in their memory skills compared with the low calorie group. Since the brain needs glucose to fuel its work, and has no ability to store what it needs, it needs constant refueling to operate at its best.
Fortunately, once carbs were reintroduced into the diets of the low carb group, their brain function returned to normal.
I believe one of my grandmothers once said that sugar was “brain food”. Now we know how wise she truly was.
